About Us

K-Mart is a chain of discount department stores that was acquired in 2005 under the name Sears Holdings Corporation. The chain expands throughout the United States, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. As of 2010, the company consists of 1,416 Kmart stores, which includes 1,361 discount stores and 55 Super Centers. KMart is currently the third largest discount store in the world behind Walmart and Target.

K-Mart has become famous for its "Blue Light Specials" occurring at random moments when a K-Mart employee would light up a police light and offer a discount in one of the store departments. The phrase "Attention K-Mart Shoppers" has also appeared in many movies.

Like many major companies, K-Mart was penalized in 2007 for violations of clean water, hazardous waste, and emergency planning at several distribution centers. Since then, the company has corrected its violations by applying for storm water permits, implementing spill prevention control, complying with hazardous waste requirements, and more. K-Mart promoted battery recycling and proposed spending millions of dollars on advertisements offering to recycle batteries for $2 dollars each.
